design progress
so I have 8 designs all drawn up now... well on my way to having a whole "spring line" hahaha... but it's a good start on deciding what my inventory will be like. I find it hard to design wihtout actually having the fabric in front of me... drew up a floor plan of how my studio furniture will be organized, i'm really happy with it... will post pics of the up-coming designs soon, and maybe post my progress on each one when i start too :)

Hmm... it's been a very long day, but there's nothing better to ease your worries than a really, really, REALLY good book. I have once again become immersed in the mists of avalon - it's just one of those books I can read and read and read and read for hours and never notice that time is passing... I forget to eat a lot...Clay pops into the room every so often to bring me half a smoke and make sure i'm still alive lol. Designs and ideas have been popping into my head all day, I really want to get started on creating... must find somewhere to get a big roll of newsprint paper for pattern drafting, I found a really good book on it today and am much inspired to quit using factory patterns that have been altered, it's time to make my own. Will make sizing a lot easier in the future as well. Anyways, the book is beckoning me :)

*sigh*..trying to watch more project runway, but the inter-web is against me. Watched the first 6 or so episodes, but now they're loading slower than playing and being all choppy and weird. Dang. One day I'll pay to subscribe to megavideo and I won't have this problem, but if it ever comes to that I guess I'd probably just spring for real cable and be a lot less frustrated. So now I'm bored. I can't knit for long without something to watch, and there is only so much entertainment to be had from the etsy forums... But alas, there is probably more out there. Maybe I'll read a book or something, except for reading makes me hungry and if I eat now I'll be up all night - dang. Now I want ice cream and a good book. Lol. I'm cool.
I can't help but post multiple times today...
So, I watched my very first episode of Project Runway Canada last night... I don't usually watch reality tv anymore, but I used to watch quite a bit and OH MY GOD... I think I'm hooked permanently. It relates to two of my very favorite things, people and designing. It was a really cool episode, they took a divorcee's wedding dress and turned it into a new outfit for the divorcee's new life. It was interesting to see what the designers came up with, and the one girl...massacred that poor lady's wedding dress... I can't belive she didn't get the boot for that, I have a feeling that the network wants to keep her for the drama ratings, she was a total cow.
a little b/g info
Well, I guess I'll give anyone interested a little background info on where I'm coming from so my future posts make a little more sense. I am 18 years old, just quit my day job after writing a business plan and securing a loan so I can get a studio space and sell on etsy full time. I'm currently waiting to hear from the other people who work in the studio, to find out when I get the space. I recently underwent surgery to have a cyst removed form my ovary. I live with my boyfriend and my baby (our cat, alfredo) in a teeny-weeny run down apartment with a great clawfoot bathtub and a kitchen that I can hide by closing the cupboards. My dream is to make enough off of etsy in the next few years for a downpayment on a nice little house, where I can cook and do laundry and alfredo can have a garden to mutilate, and my love can collect as many cars as he pleases. As is, we have nowhere to put the ten thousand (okay, 4) extra cars we have and are playing cars musical chairs in order to get rid of some of them and make rent.
I've been sewing as long as I can remember, my grnmother had me making my barbie clothes as soon as I was big enough to reach the sewing machine pedal. I took as many sewing classes as i possibly could in high school, and graduated a semester early because there weren't going to be any sewing classes in the second semester, and lit was cancelled so high school had nothing left to offer me other than misery and alcoholism, so I up and moved to Kelowna to... well get away I guess. I had just had a difficult break up, and wanted a fresh start. Wound up working at a Safeway in Kelowna for like $8.50/hour for about 5 months, decided I hated it there, and came back to nelson for the graduation ceremonies and to live with my mother again. Wound up working a zillion dead end minimum wage jobs, living in an apartment with 5 people and ONE yes you read that right, ONE bedroom... sigh. Never again will I have roommates. But, I did fall in love with one of them, and here I am - in an apt. a floor above the old one, with no roomates, and happy as a clam.

My very first blog post
It's hard to know where to start with this whole blogging deal.... seems impossible to think of anything to write, but I know I need to just stop thinking and do it. What do people want to read? I know. The cat. You want to read about my cat, right? well probably not but I'll write about him anyways because he's strange and awesome.
Five strange things about my wonderful little Alfredo.
1. He loves baths - LOVES them. Demands them at least twice a day. We'll get in the bath tub and then he'll come up beside it and demand that we give him sort of "sponge baths" but just with a wet hand out of the tub. He also loves the "tub monster" - one of our taps is broken, and falls off quite often, and if you tap it on the edge of the tub he goes bonkers. weirdo.
2. He has an extremely good sense of time. We call him our "alarm cat" - every morning around ten and every night around 12 he starts to go berserk, meowing and running around and pawing at us.
3. He goes hunting for my toes under blankets...
4. He loves gummy worms, I'd say they're his favorite toy. After a good cardboard box that is.
5. He gets mad if I turn off the bathroom light in the evening - his water and litterbox are in there, so I guess it makes sense, but I though cats could see in the dark?
So anyways... that's five strange things about my cat. It'll get better, trust me. I hope.
